about dusty roadDusty road is a range of plants that are grown and marketed by a collection of nurseries from around the world. Our aim is to choose good performing cultivars and then grow them the best that we can so you can obtain successful results in your garden. environmental goalsOur philosphy on the environment is to minimise our impact on it and for gardeners to harvest water and use it wisely. Our harsh climate plants are all low water users. Lavender Avon View is probably our thirstiest, but once established is still a pretty lean drinker. We admit that many foodcrops need good regular waterings. Our belief is that growers need to think about watering smartly - use a saucer under a pot and you have zero run-off, use drip irrigation on larger plantings, and water when the temperature is low so as to minimise evaporative loss. You probably visited this site because you saw the website address on one of our plant labels. We make our labels as small as practicle, so you won't see big plastic labels on any of our plants. Thats why we only put the main points about the plant on the label. A plant label needs to be durable to UV rays and water for at least 6 months. If we find a durable biodegrable material that can be printed on with natural inks, we will shift from the current labels that are made from recycled plastic whenever possible. We suggest gardeners save our labels for referral later on in the plants life. Some of our plants are grown in biodegradable pots, and when we are fully confident of this emerging technology, all dusty road plants will be grown in non-plastic pots wherever possible. Currently there are plants being grown in pots being made from miscanthus grass, bound together with natural gums. Weeds are a problem. We do not select plants that are on registered weed lists in certain geographic regions. Prudence in plant selection should avoid a weed problem, but please let us know if you believe a dusty road variety is taking over your garden in an agressive manner. feedbackOur plant list is evolving as we grow. Please let us know your thoughts on dusty road varieties that you have grown. Keep in mind that all plant label instructions are merely a guide and that different climatic factors can vary plant growth. Therefore keep the feedback constructive, so we can both improve as growers. There is a grower feedback form on our contact page. |
