AsteliaAnother adapatable plant of New Zealand origin; and being from NZ, these plants are used to a harsh climate. They can be planted in full sun to part shade and are suitable in frosty and coastal conditions. They are also stunning in pots and will remain more compact than in the open garden. This is one tough plant that will face windy and barren positions but can look after itself. It will however probably perform differently in different regions. The size and colour can vary, with colours of occasional reddishness but mainly silvery olive sheens. This plant is a low water user once established and in fact can go without water for weeks. It would perfom better in well drained soils. Remove dead or damaged leaves by cutting near the base of plant. This wonderful clumping plant surely has a great use in any garden or decorative pot.

did you know ? Astelia is a Greek word meaning without stele, which means without trunk or stem, which explains the amazing branching you get with these clumping plants.
